Teacher Thoughts at the end of the year: I am loving being back in my own classroom and had a blast! It has been a learning experience though. First just planning my lessons and the fun activities isn't like the U.S. I have to think through can I find what I am looking for here, plan a trip to get into town and get them in the time frame needed. This has been a big challenge for me. Since I never quit tweaking lessons and ideas always seem to pop into my head last minute not being able to run down to Walmart made me very creative!! Second most of my kids are not from the U.S. or have been here so long they don't really know it. Some of those things you just pick up by being in the U.S. like who Uncle Sam is they have no idea about. The basic geography of the U.S. like TX and FL are in the South and NY is in the northeast. I am constantly having to explain things that I have never had to before. It made me evaluate everything that I said and how I wanted to teach stuff. Third the schools here are just more fun and less stressful then teaching in the U.S. This year we had a water balloon/water gun re-enactment. The water guns would have gotten us expelled in the U.S. We have a zillion resources and more importantly TIME!!!! As a teacher in the U.S. that was always the struggle. Here I have two preps a day and plenty of time to grade, plan, etc. It makes a huge difference! On the fun note where else would you take the entire 8th grade class to the beach for the day. I have loved seeing my kids do this each year and loved going with the 8th graders. In short I have loved my year!
