Before & After

Thomas had his chest surgery.  It went really well.  We were in the hospital exactly a week.  We checked in at 8:00 pm Friday and checked out at 8:00 pm the following Friday.  The stay wasn't bad as we had our own room most of the time.  The  most frustrating part was that Tom wasn't allowed to spend the night so I had to be there each night with Thomas.  That was not something we were expecting.  Other than that we were happy.  The staff was very nice and Loved on Thomas!

Home Vistiors

Thomas was thrilled to get home.  He has had numerous visitors since coming home.  His favorite has been his teacher Mr. Anderson who spent over an hour here with him!

Pediatric Ward

This was our worst experience in the hospital.  We moved from our own room in ICU to a room with four.  Thomas had a break down and made a few attempts to escape the hospital by using his cane to attempt to beat the door switch on the wall.  They finally moved him the treatment room so he could be by himself and then to a room with just one other person.  That night the other kid started screaming and wouldn't quit because they were there by themselves.  Thomas got mad and went and walked the halls at 1:30 am.  He finally laid down in the hallway floor and refused to move.  That prompted them to move us into a baby room by ourselves.  We stayed there until we were discharged the following evening.  We were not expecting to be discharged that evening but were very thankful for it!!!  Thomas had several visitors while in the pediatric ward which also made him very happy!
Leaving

ICU

Thomas and I spent five nights in ICU.  Upon arriving he had numerous visitors from doctors.  His favorite was Dr. Mushcab.  Kids aren't allowed in ICU but on day four they finally let Lily come in.  Both kids were excited to see each other!  Thomas was forced out of his bed on day two and into a chair.  It wasn't pretty. The next day he got out twice on his own and by day four was walking around the floor.  They took his epidural out on day four as well and moved him over to morphine.  Thomas had several visitors while in ICU  which he enjoyed.
