Art Classes

The kids have been taking art classes during this intersession.  (3 weeks)  They have really enjoyed it!

Tom's Birthday!

We celebrated Tom's birthday at home.  We made him a cake but wrote on a plate.  The icing for writing was nasty and we didn't want it ruining the cake.  Since we have to have Tom take us everywhere we didn't get him anything but the kids made him pictures and cards.  His parents did send a box so had something to open.  The kids always enjoy helping him blow out the candles.  They started singing him happy birthday two days before enough to actually drive you crazy!

Random March

As we round out the month of March here are some random photos.
At least she didn't hang them by their heads!
Lined up sleeping with all the princesses.  She had to have her eye mask also.

Shamal

This is the shamal or sandstorm that rolled through last night leaving a layer of sand over everything.  These are from Kuwait where it started.  It was dark by the time it made it to us.   We hear the wind pick up and thought another cold front was moving through.  The Saudi schools were actually cancelled today because of this.

Bedouin & Camel Market

We took a trip to the Bedouin and camel markets.  It was about two and half hours each direction but well worth it.  We saw lots of camels both up close and from afar.  It is crazy that they have their herds of camels and goats right by the road.

Bedouin Market

We went to Nariya to see the Bedouin market.  The Bedouin are nomadic people who wonder the desert and live in tents.  At their market they sell things for camels.   It was really cool to see all the things they had made for a camel.  Thomas got a camel whacking stick used to make them run faster.  Lily got a bag, Tom a blanket and I got bells.  We walked down to where some of their tents were and looked at their camels and other animals they had for sale.  They had long haired goats which were really cool.  We had a hard time understanding them since they spoke no English.  That is a sign of how little they are around non-arabic speakers.  They didn't even know English numbers.  Thankfully Lily was able to translate the numbers for us so between her and them showing us what money they wanted we were able to barter. Since this was outside the Aramco camps I had to wear by abaya.  It was a really cool experience.

Falcon

After the Bedouin and camel markets we had lunch in the desert.  The Bedouin guys brought an adult falcon for us to see and hold.  It was really cool!

Camel Market

We went to the camel market.  This is where they sale the camels.  The kids loved petting and feeding the camels.  We saw white, tan and brown camels here.  The kids were also able to hold a goat see a falcon and talk to the hay men.

 Food Camels
This camel is worth 150,000 SR or about $40,000 because of its long face.  It is not one that you would eat. It is a luxury camel.
This camel is the Daddy camel of all the camels at market.
